Thanks to AI, It’s All Slop

These days it’s hard to get away from the word “slop.”

Every direction I turn, another “slop” word strikes my brain.

This morning the Wall Street Journal (May 22, 2026) added to the slop-heap with a neologism: vibe slop.

According to the Journal, vibe slop is “bad, potentially even dangerous, code.”

Just in case you hadn’t guessed, vibe slop is a portmanteau of vibe coding and AI slop.

Here are a few other words that are “slopping” around lately:

• AI Slop
  Meaning: Low-effort, low-quality AI-generated content produced at scale; Poor quality writing, art, etc. coming out of AI; untrustworthy stuff, rubbish, nonsense. BTW, Slop is the Economist's Word of 2025.
  Example: Despite all the hype around vibe coding, old-time programmers complain that the output is just AI slop, suffers from poor security and needs much fixing.
• Slopper
  Meaning: The Cambridge Dictionary described a slopper as “someone who relies too much on AI chatbots to make decisions, find out information, etc.”
• Slopmonger
  Meaning: Someone who produces and/or distributes AI slop
• Slopaganda
  Meaning: AI-generated propaganda or manipulative low-quality political content
  Example: Both Ukraine and Russia are resorting to slopaganda to influence public opinion.
• Slopbot
  Meaning: A bot that generates repetitive or low-quality AI content
• Trendslop
  Meaning: The Cambridge Dictionary blog features this entry and defines it as "the tendency of an AI model to give an answer that follows popular trends instead of analysing the situation and providing a response that is relevant to it."
• Slopfarm
  Meaning: A content farm, business or web site producing AI-generated junk content in large quantity
• Workslop
  Meaning: AI generated content that appears polished but is actually below par
• Slopstream
  Meaning: A constant flow of low-quality AI-generated media
• Sloppification
  Meaning: Process by which platforms become flooded with low-quality AI content
• Slopware
  Meaning: Poorly made AI software or AI features added carelessly
• Slopfeed
  Meaning: A personalized feed overwhelmed with low-quality algorithmic content aka slop
• Slopbait
  Meaning: AI-generated content designed purely to boost engagement
